TIDBITS:

We have - at the MOST - seven days together before the end of the year. WOW!

6th grade math:

MONDAY: (6/2 - in class) "Standards Review"

In class today, you will look at the standards we have been working on all year and assess your skill with each standard.

TUESDAY(6/3 - independent work) "Standards Review"

Based on your self-assessments, I am assigning the following IXL sections for you to work on today. You have an hour of class time. Spend 10 minutes on each section.

ABSOLUTE VALUE:

Eighth grade > B.2 Absolute value and opposite integers
Algebra 1 > L.1 Solve absolute value equations
Eighth grade > C.8 Simplify expressions involving integers and absolute values

INEQUALITIES:

Seventh grade > D.5 Integer inequalities with absolute values
Sixth grade > P.21 Inequalities on number lines
Seventh grade > W.4 Solve one-step linear inequalities

WEDNESDAY(6/4 - in class) "Standards Review"

Mini-lessons on those identified skills needing more time.

THURSDAY(6/5 - in class) "Standards Review"

Mini-lessons on those identified skills needing more time.

FRIDAY(5/30 - independent work)  "Standards Review"

  1. Based on your self-assessments, I am assigning the following IXL sections. You have an hour of class time. Spend 10 minutes on each section.

    INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT EVENTS:
    Sixth grade >

BB.6 Identify dependent and independent events
    Seventh grade >

Z.7 Probability of independent and dependent events
    Eighth grade >

BB.6 Identify independent and dependent events

    VOLUME and SURFACE AREA
    Sixth grade >

Z.40 Relate volume and surface area
    Sixth grade >

Z.39 Volume and surface area of cylinders

EQUIVALENT EXPRESSIONS
Sixth grade > P.1 Write variable expressions to represent word problems

Algebra:

MONDAY: (6/2 - in class) "Chapter 10, Section 10.1 AND 10.2"

Chapter 13 test is due today.

Understanding features of quadratic equations & quadratic functions.
Graphing y = ax^2 + c and y = ax^2 + bx +c

TUESDAY(6/3 - independent work)  "Chapter 10, Section 10.3"

Understanding features of quadratic equations & quadratic functions.

First, read Section 10.3 in your book.
Then, work in IXL on these sections for pratice:

Algebra 1 > BB.1 Characteristics of quadratic functions
Algebra 1 > BB.2 Complete a function table: quadratic functions

Algebra 1 > CC.2 Identify linear, quadratic, and exponential functions from tables
Algebra 2 > J.1 Characteristics of quadratic functions

And from Khan Academy:

Work in the Graphing Quadratics section. Watch videos and take it all in. I want to you understand HOW these things work. In Algebra II, you will work on CREATING them to a much greater degree than I require of you now. That said, you can go head and work on the other sections of Quadratics in Khan Academy, but please understand we will not be covering much of this in class.

We will be moving on to SOLVING quadratics on Wed and Thurs, so if you can't be with us then, go ahead and look at those sections of the book (Sections 10.4, 10.5).

No homework tonight.

WEDNESDAY(6/4 - in class)  "Chapter 10, Section 10.4"

Use square roots to solve quadratic equations.

THURSDAY(6/5 - in class)  "Chapter 10, Sections 10.5 and 10.6"

Solve quadratic equations by completing the square.
Use the Quadratic Equation.
We will skip Section 10.7.

FRIDAY(5/30 - independent work)  "Chapter 10"

Do the Chapter test for Chapter 10 from your book.
Email (or otherwise get) me your answers by MONDAY, June 9.
