objective: learn (or demonstrate knowledge of) these terms:
"Experimental probability" and "theoretical probability"
Theoretical probability: the likeliness of an event happening based on all possible outcomes.
Experimental probability: the ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the total number of trials or times the activity is performed.

I have a bowl of fruit. There are 15 pieces of fruit. 5 of them are bananas. What is the probability of me reaching into the bowl with my eyes closed and picking a banana?
FORMULA: P(banana) = 1 - P(not banana)
so, P(banana) = 1 - P(all other fruit)
P(banana) = 1 - 10/15
P(banana) = 15/15 - 10/15 = 5/15 = 1/3

Computer work:
When you are done with your test: Consider again the Monty Hall Problem.
Run this simulator: choose a door, then keep or change your choice. Watch how the numbers change as you run the simulation.

Algebra:
MONDAY: (5/5 - in class) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS - 9.4: Introduction to factoring
Objective: begin to understand how factoring works
NOTES from class: Remember - when you raise an exponential expression to another power [such as our class time example (5x^3)^2 ], you MULTIPLY the exponents. The answer in this case is 125x^6. NOT 15x^5 :)
Factoring is to FOIL as division is to multiplication.
Pull out as much as you can from each term - Pull a variable too, if you can.
Don't forget about 14,3 being a factor pair of 42. You will need this paring later, as he head deeper into factoring ;)

2. Animated Math: Try using your iPads for THIS, but the animation may not be supported.
You can also see an animation for Example 3 p. 555 (Adding/subtracting polynomials), and for Factorization with Algebra Tiles (p. 582 and 592).
