TIDBITS:
If this is true, then it explains why I always want you to show your work :)
COMMENTS: Ok, I believe that now, comments settings are set so that you can comment, so comment away :)
6th grade math:
MONDAY: (5/5 - in class) "HOW LIKELY IS IT?" Investigation 2
objective: learn (or demonstrate knowledge of) these terms:
"Experimental probability" and "theoretical probability"
Theoretical probability: the likeliness of an event happening based on all possible outcomes.
Experimental probability: the ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the total number of trials or times the activity is performed.
Notes from class: Probability formula
I have a bowl of fruit. There are 15 pieces of fruit. 5 of them are bananas. What is the probability of me reaching into the bowl with my eyes closed and picking a banana?
FORMULA: P(banana) = 1 - P(not banana)
so, P(banana) = 1 - P(all other fruit)
P(banana) = 1 - 10/15
P(banana) = 15/15 - 10/15 = 5/15 = 1/3
!!No homework!!
TUESDAY: (5/6 - independent work) "HOW LIKELY IS IT?" Investigation 2
objective: 1. write experimental and theoretical probability as mathematical statements.
2. practice with Friday's test in mind. I will give you similar questions to the 'banana' example above.
Bookwork:
READ pages 21, and 24-25.
DO these questions (beginning p. 28) q. 2, 8, 29, and q. 2 on p. 38
Computer work:
When you are done with your test: Consider again the Monty Hall Problem.
Run this simulator: choose a door, then keep or change your choice. Watch how the numbers change as you run the simulation.
If you have time, you can work on IXL (don't forget to put the classroom number 406 after your name when you sign in):
Also, you can practice long division.
WEDNESDAY: (5/7 - in class) "HOW LIKELY IS IT?"
Investigation 3 - Making decisions with probability
Investigation 3 - Making decisions with probability
vocabulary: simulation
objective: Determine and consider the probability of an event. Use this information to make decisions.
THURSDAY: (5/8 - in class) "HOW LIKELY IS IT?"
Investigation 4 - Probability, genetics and games
Investigation 4 - Probability, genetics and games
objective: Discuss and determine the likelihood of genetic traits.
FRIDAY: (5/9 - independent work) "HOW LIKELY IS IT?"
--> End of Book TEST
--> I have emailed you your test. Check your mail :)
Algebra:
MONDAY: (5/5 - in class) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS - 9.4: Introduction to factoring
Objective: begin to understand how factoring works
NOTES from class: Remember - when you raise an exponential expression to another power [such as our class time example (5x^3)^2 ], you MULTIPLY the exponents. The answer in this case is 125x^6. NOT 15x^5 :)
Factoring is to FOIL as division is to multiplication.
Pull out as much as you can from each term - Pull a variable too, if you can.
Don't forget about 14,3 being a factor pair of 42. You will need this paring later, as he head deeper into factoring ;)
TUESDAY: (5/6- independent work) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS
1. Practice graphing calculators
DO these pages (in order of importance)
p. 560, "Graph Polynomial Functions",
p. 519 "Graphing using Scientific Notation",
p. 388 "Compound Inequalities"
2. Animated Math: Try using your iPads for THIS, but the animation may not be supported.
You can also see an animation for Example 3 p. 555 (Adding/subtracting polynomials), and for Factorization with Algebra Tiles (p. 582 and 592).
(If you like this, you can find more at classzone. com. The first page of every chapter in our book shows you the first Animated Algebra problem for that chapter.)
If you have more time after this, begin working on the MIxed Review, p. 581.
Have an awesome day!
WEDNESDAY: (5/7 - in class) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS - 9.5 Factoring
THURSDAY: (5/8 - in class) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS - 9.6 Factoring
FRIDAY: (5/9 - independent work) CHAPTER 9: POLYNOMIALS - 9.5 & 9.6
You have your assignments: from your resource books, complete these for Monday9.2 Challenge, 9.3 "C" and 9.5 "C" .
If you would like more "B" level practice before digging in, have a look at the textbook problems (Don't worry about doing the word problems and other extended problems. Just do the "x^2 + 26x + 13" type of questions.)
AND you can these practice questions from the eTextbook
Have a great weekend. Don't forget to tell your mom how great she is :)

The tidbit was very funny. 10/10 Would tidbit again
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm glad you like the Tidbit :) I apologize, but I can not understand your comment, "Would tidbit again". Does this mean you would like another Tidbit?
