Week of November 17 - 21, 2014
You have been a good boy. Here is a lollipop. Fist bump: Bala lala la |
For everybody: Ease your mind (we will do this together in class).
6th grade math
Accelerated class:
Monday (11/17, in class) -
1. Colby's Kahoot
2. Mrs. Dawson's Kahoot
2. Camping Rectangular Prism Worksheet
Tuesday (11/18, in class) - Geometry - QUIZ on finding volume of cones, cylinders, spheres
Begin Packet, remainder due on Monday, November 20
Monday (11/17, in class) -
Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.G.A.2
|
2. Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas V = l w h and V = b h to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

Tuesday (11/18, in class) - Geometry - QUIZ on finding volume of cones, cylinders, spheres
Math.CCSS.Math.Content.8.G.A.9 | Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems. |
Begin Packet, remainder due on Monday, November 20
Wednesday (11/12, in class) - Figures in the coordinate planes
Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.C.6.b | 6b. Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes. |
Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.G.A.3 | 3. Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the length of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. |
- Four quadrants
- Drawing figures following instructions, using coordinate pairs (Dottie)
HOMEWORK: prepare for QUIZ; work on geometry packet due 11/20
Thursday (11/13, in class) - QUIZ on Volume Formulas and Quadrants
- practice with finding volume
- quadrants
- drawing polygons in coordinate plane
- practice with finding volume
- quadrants
- drawing polygons in coordinate plane
Friday (11/14, independent) - TenMarks as assigned

7th grade math
Monday (11/10, in class) - review Theme Park Tycoon work; debate prep
- hand in Quiz corrections
- hand in Quiz corrections
Tuesday (11/11, Mrs. Harvey) - HOMEWORK debate prep, including counterpoints in team
HOMEWORK: Theme Park Tycoon corrections; debates
1. We will follow the rules and methods for these Formal Team Debates.
Read through the website to understand how Formal Team Debates differ from other types of debates.
2. Look at your google mail. Look at the rubric for debates presentations. Understand the expectations.
3. In the debates, for the HOMEWORK debate, each team will have FOUR minutes to make their case, another FOUR minutes to argue the other team's points, and a final THREE minutes to summarize.
(We will flip a coin to see who goes first on debate day.)
a) Today, you should prepare your first constructive argument - the first speech you give, that sets out your position and why you take that position. Decide who the first person will be. Each team will have FOUR minutes to make their case.
b) Today, you will also prepare the destructive speech, the speech you make against your opponent's points. You will need to guess what they will say and prepare to speak against that. You will have FOUR minutes to speak. Decide who will take this job.
c) The third job is the summative speaker. The summary is THREE minutes long. At this point, the judge had heard everything and your job is to 'drive it home' - convince the judge by repeating earlier arguments.
Tomorrow we will work on individual debates.
