6th grade math:

9/23 MONDAY: (in class)

objective - define PROPER FACTOR, FACTOR, DIVISOR, MULTIPLE.
- continue Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple (GCF / LCM): understand Birthday Cake Method for finding GCF
standard: Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.B.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12.
activities - find an effective video teaching Birthday Cake Method for GCF and/or LCM
text pages - n/a
homework - DUE TOMORROW (Tuesday, September 23, 2014)

Use the Birthday Cake Method to find the GCF of these number sets. Show your work.         Hand it to me on a sheet of lined paper.

      a)  45     117

      b)  14r^2      42r

9/23 TUESDAY: (in class)

objective - use Upside Down Birthday Cake Method to find Least Common Multiple (LCM)
standard: Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.B.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12.
activities - practice divisibility rules, practice GCF and LCM
text pages - n/a
homework - DUE WEDNESDAY, September 23, 2014

Use the Upside Down Birthday Cake Method to find the LCM of these number sets.               Show your work. Hand it to me on a sheet of lined paper.

      a)  18, 24, 36

      b)  5x^2y, 21xy^3

9/24 WEDNESDAY(in class)

objective - use Upside Down Birthday Cake Method to find Least Common Multiple (LCM)

--> We learned that when finding LCM for 2 numbers, we can use the numbers along the side and top of the Birthday Cake, but when we have MORE than 2 numbers for which we are finding the LCM, we only need to multiply the left over numbers on the top layer of the cake.

standard: Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.B.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12.
activities -  practice GCF and LCM
text pages: Prime Time 41

homework: DUE THURSDAY, September 24, 2014
Do questions a) and b) on page 41. Write your work on a lined sheet of paper.

9/25 THURSDAY(in class)

standard: Math.CCSS.Math.Content.6.NS.B.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12.
activities -  practice GCF and LCM using "Prime Time" book questions.

9/26 FRIDAY(independent work)

     1. Divisibility worksheet (given to you in class on Thursday).

     2. If you have time: begin working on your Exit Tickets for Prime Time.
(Your teacher has this packet for you.)

7th accelerated math:

9/22 MONDAY(in class)

objective - define PROPER FACTOR, FACTOR, DIVISOR, MULTIPLE.
- continue Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple (GCF / LCM): understand Birthday Cake Method for finding GCF
text pages - Chapter 1 Book Test
homework - Chapter 1 Book Test CORRECTIONS

Chapter Test "C" was DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24. We will review it TOMORROW Tuesday, September 23. You have one extra day to complete it.

9/23 TUESDAY(hands on work)

REVIEW CHAPTER TEST "C" with Mrs. Harvey.
Enter PROPER FACTOR, FACTOR, DIVISOR, MULTIPLE in your Reference Section.

9/24 WEDNESDAY(in class)

objective - use Upside Down Birthday Cake Method to find Least Common Multiple (LCM)
activities - Jumping Jack test for linear functions; go over Chapter Test 1 answers

HOMEWORK: Due Monday, September 28, 2104

Signed Test "C" and Corrections

9/25 THURSDAY(in class) Back to FUNCTIONS.

objective: Math.CCSS.Math.Content.8.F.A.1 - Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output. (Function notation is not required in Grade 8.)

book: BOTH Variables (CMP) and Algebra

HOMEWORK: Due Monday, September 28, 2104

Signed Test "C" and Corrections

9/26 FRIDAY(independent work)

1. Corrections (due Monday 9/30)

2. Reference entries for 6 words:

  • set
  • element
  • empty set
  • universal
  • union
  • intersection

3. Dependent and independent variables: Time permitting, using a separate page for each one, make up a real life example of dependent and independent variables. Label the x and y axes on a coordinate grid with these variables. (You will be assigned this on Monday for homework. Do it now if you have time.)
