115 LIBRARY

>> MOVED TO THE LIBRARY PAGE >>

If you are ever in need of a good book to read, and can not find what you like in the school library, ask me!

(Some of them are a bit on the 'mature' side, so I may ask for a permission note from your peeps.)

(I will try every Saturday to post a new Book of the Week.)

Book of the Week (BOTW) - 3/1/14:

PATHFINDER: A powerful secret. a dangerous path.

The author, Orson Scott  Card, has written many excellent books. He writes science fiction and speculative fiction. You may come across other books of his and in the main, they are worth your time.

Pathfinder is about a teenager and his friends with special time-twisty gifts who end up going on an adventure to save their known world.

It's a bit long, coming in at 657 pages, but it is a relatively easy read and I found it really interesting and engaging.

The time-travel is not very scientific (sort of like A Wrinkle in Time) but we didn't read that one for the science, either ;)

I learned a word from this book: ALBEDO.

  1. Albedo Effect The MFactory
  2. Albedo, or reflection coefficient, derived from Latin albedo "whiteness" in turn from albus "white," is the diffuse reflectivity or reflecting power of a surface. It is the ratio of reflected radiation from the surface to incident radiation upon it. Wikipedia

This is actually Mr. Doty's personal copy, so if you wish to borrow it, please keep that in mind (like, don't take it to the beach on your trip to Florida and get it full of sand and saltwater and seastars).

Other books you might like that I have on hand:

- The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Fault in our Stars, John Green
- Born on a Blue Day, Daniel Tammet

Book of the Week (BOTW) - 3/16/14:

planetwalker

 by John Francis

This is an autobiographical story by a man who lived according to his principles so much that he stopped talking and walked everywhere for 17 years, raising awareness of ecological problems. It's a fascinating story. Can you imagine never talking - even to your parents - for so long?
